The "Germany – Land of Ideas" initiative underlines the strength of Germany as a location for business and industry and reflects the country's most important characteristics: imagination, a passion for creativity and visionary thinking.

IT2media is a partner of the wireless LAN location-finding test environment and was present at the Technology Day in the Nuremberg Fraunhofer Institut on 29 October 2009. In this connection, the wireless LAN location-finding test environment showed once again that it provides innovative companies with the chance to implement their new ideas.

Dr. Gerhard Baier, Managing Director of IT2media GmbH, gave a first-hand report on the development of MobileWALK and gave a perspective of future options for wireless LAN location-finding in towns and buildings. In addition to contributors from the fields of research and economics, there were also contributions from representatives of the Fraunhofer Institut, the City of Nuremberg and the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

On the occasion of the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften ("Long Science Night") IT2media's MobileWALK application started GPS-independent location-finding for the cities of Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen. Apart from city centre maps, you can, for example, display on your mobile phone the nearest shops and restaurants to your location at any one time. Localizing is based on Fraunhofer IIS's standalone wireless LAN location-finding. As added value for the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften in Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen, IT2media acquired and digitized all the event locations. More than a hundred visitors tested the system on location and could not hide their enthusiasm for its power and efficiency.

People were particularly impressed by the local installation option and the Carfinder feature for forgetful car owners.

At the subsequent panel discussion, there was a chance to ask questions directly of experienced users and experts.
